🔷 General Principles
At West Yorkshire Martial Arts, we are committed to providing a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all students, instructors, visitors, and parents. The following Code of Conduct outlines the expected behaviours both inside and outside the dojang (training hall).

🧍♂️ STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT
1. Respect
• Show respect to instructors, fellow students, visitors, and yourself at all times.
• Bow when entering and leaving the dojang, and when addressing instructors or partners.
• Use appropriate titles (e.g., Sabum, Master, Instructor) during training.
2. Discipline & Behaviour
• Arrive on time and in full uniform (dobok) with belt tied correctly.
• Maintain self-control, humility, and a positive attitude.
• Follow instructions promptly and without argument.
• No foul language, bullying, or disruptive behaviour will be tolerated.
3. Safety
• Keep fingernails and toenails trimmed; remove jewellery before training.
• Report any injuries to the instructor before class.
• Practice techniques with care to avoid injury to yourself or others.
• Sparring is only permitted under supervision and with proper equipment.
4. Commitment
• Train regularly and work hard to improve both physically and mentally.
• Support your fellow students regardless of their grade or ability.
• Take responsibility for your own progress; do not compare yourself to others.
5. Off-the-Mat Conduct
• Represent the school and art of Taekwondo with integrity and courtesy outside of class.
• Refrain from using Taekwondo skills inappropriately or outside the dojang except in genuine self-defence.

🧑🏫 INSTRUCTOR CODE OF CONDUCT
1. Professionalism
• Lead by example in behaviour, attitude, and technical proficiency.
• Dress in a clean, professional uniform and maintain personal standards.
• Treat all students fairly regardless of age, gender, race, background, or ability.
2. Safety & Duty of Care
• Provide a safe and inclusive training environment for all students.
• Ensure proper warm-ups, equipment, and progression appropriate to each student’s level.
• Never use excessive force or allow unsafe practices.
3. Positive Coaching
• Encourage students through constructive feedback and clear guidance.
• Avoid ridicule, favouritism, or demeaning language.
• Celebrate progress at all levels — not just black belts.
4. Safeguarding
• Follow all safeguarding guidelines for working with children and vulnerable adults.
• Maintain appropriate professional boundaries at all times.
• Ensure that DBS checks and first aid qualifications are up to date.

🛡️ PARENT & VISITOR CODE
• Support your child’s efforts — praise discipline, effort, and improvement.
• Refrain from coaching from the sidelines or disrupting classes.
• Raise concerns respectfully and privately with instructors — not during lessons.
• Ensure children arrive on time and are collected promptly.

⚖️ BREACHES OF CONDUCT
Failure to follow this code may result in:
• Verbal or written warnings
• Temporary suspension from training
• Permanent removal from the school (in serious or repeated cases)
